I have a lottt of catching up to do... and rowan rach and roma need to get your april posts up stat ;)
1. So... the last few months have been amazing because we're finally sinking in to this beautiful thing called married life! The whole period of engagement was incredibly fun (full of celebrations and planning) but that's just the thing: it's all about planning for what will be. a time of transition. and now we're here!! in the now. I'm a huge advocate for pre-marital counseling or marriage prep classes, etc. because I truly think that is a huge part of why the last few months have been so easy and exciting for us. I think the best advice we got was to put more time and effort into planning for your MARRIAGE instead of your wedding. You wedding will make you happy for one day and it will pass but maintaining contentment in marriage over years and years takes a lot more work. We did a lottt of preparation for marriage by taking this class at our church where you meet with a mentor couple and other couples for discussion and each week there's a different theme like finances, sexytime (i.e. babymaking), family planning (i.e. baby-raising), communication, conflict resolution, etc. It's so important that those huge discussions are worked out BEFORE you walk down the aisle hah and tons of people think that stuff will get easier with marriage or that their spouse will change their mind and give in or something... we saw some couples in our class go into it with that last attitude and it makes me nervous for them! okay i don't know where i'm going with all this marriage stuff but i'm basically just saying i'm very pleased that we prioritized our relationship from the beginning so that now it's just a blast :) i think i went into that whole deal because the first thing people ask us when we haven't seen them in a while is "how's married life?" and i've been thinking lately how i haven't been able to share that with any of you guys yet!
This is us celebrating my 21st birthday with some friends haha
2. We finally settled into our own little home in January! well, 2 bedroom apartment but it's still a home :) i've been living there since last summer but it looks like a completely different place with all of the wedding gifts and Bran's stuff. here are a couple quick pictures but I posted some on facebook for you guys a while back since I wasn't able to log on here for a while.
My mom did those two paintings for our wedding and then the frame on the right has a photo collage that I had made on etsy that has a quote next to a picture from our engagement shoot.
3. Although I'm not anywhere near as artistic as my mother, I have been getting back into scrapbooking lately big time and it has made me miss you guys like crazy going through all our funny memories from high school!!
Here are some other little artsy projects I've worked on in the last few months. I made a collage out of the photobooth pictures - you guys are all in this and it's hilarious!!I dried out the flowers from my wedding bouquet and the bridesmaids' and used them to make a couple collages shown above. Usually people just keep their entire bouquet in a weird brown lump in their closet so I thought this would be a little more fun :)
4. March was a crazy month of traveling! Bran, Casey and I went to Lake Tahoe to go skiing for our spring break and then the next week Roma and Amy both came with their friends to Orlando for theirs. Then that wknd I got to visit Casey in Nashville. Another wknd Brandon's parents took us on a weekend cruise to the Bahamas and the royal carribean private island called CocoaKay in February. Then in March the Blahnik's took Matt & Ashley (our brother and sister-in-law) on a weekend cruise and we got to watch their precious baby Emery all weekend!!! These pictures aren't from the same time but she is just adorable so I'm still going to share this with yall:
5. I've been interning this semester at the Center For Drug Free Living and absolutely loving it! I've learned SO MUCH about addiction and my passion for this population keeps increasing. I can't wait to complete my master's so that I'm qualified to actually counsel full time!!
6. Brandon and I are really looking forward to this fall!!!!!!!!!!! We're going to Europe for a month! London, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Ireland, Paris, Rome, Florence, Venice and then an Easter mediterranean cruise landing in Greece, Slovenia and a few other places i can't remember lol It's insane! A once in a life time opportunity! Then when we get back in September we basically have no idea what the exact plan is. At this point (which clairebear is very happy about) our number one choice is Charlotte, NC. bran has already had very successful first round interviews with two sports teams there and we have heard nothing but great things about the area.
Alright I need to head out - we're going to meet up with some people to watch the Magic playoff game. Hopefully this was enough (maybe even too much) to make up for the times I've missed. I'm so excited to hear from yall - I love reading what you guys post so let's keep this up!
with lots of love,
Kels
